The Canadian journal Crux Mathematicorum has a devoted following among people interested in mathematics problem solving, especially mathematics competitions. About the Author
Andy Liu is a professor in department of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences at the University of Alberta. His research interests span discrete mathematics, hypergraph theory, combinatorial geometry, foundations of mathematics, mathematical education and recreational mathematics. The common characteristics of the research problems he works on are that they are easy to understand but not so easy to solve.

In 1985 Bruce Shawyer joined Memorial University as full professor, serving as head of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics from 1985-91. Dr Shawyer's professional interests in mathematics research include approximation of the sums of slowly convergent series, the summability of series and integrals, and Euclidean geometry. He is founder of the mathematical challenge for junior high school students and former head coach of the Canadian team for the International Mathematical Olympiad. Dr Shawyer has authored 118 publications and is currently Editor-in-Chief of the ATOM (A Taste Of Mathematics) book series.

Abby, what would I do without you?

First off, I've been a follower of Abby's blog twistmepretty.com for a long time now. I've always been impressed with her ability to create beautiful hairstyles that are not only flattering, but that fit with my lifestyle. I have and love her first book and when I saw she had published a new book I knew I had to have it. This book is absolutely gorgeous. Everything is laid out on thick, beautiful photo paper and all the pictures are in color. It's so bright and fresh. She is so happy and motivating and always modest which is a huge plus for me. There are a few styles that are repeated from her first book, but overall the books have different content. If you have her first book, it's definitely worth the $14 to buy the new one. Would I recommend. Definitely.

Great for Medium Length Hair

I was hoping to find a few hairstyles that would work with my medium length hair. I was happily surprised to find that most of these hairstyles could be modified for my shorter hair. There are over 60 hairstyles in the book, so there are plenty of hairstyles that will work for you. The hairstyles are so pretty and it's definitely a nice change from my usual ponytail!

A classic

This book has to be considered as a classic in the field. Ironically, Mitchell's term 'pictorial turn' seems to be more widespread than knowledge of this book, with the unsettling consequence that many people talk about pictures *replacing* the word, and few about the intricate and complex relationship between the two.
The book is surprisingly well written, rarely has an academic book entertained me so much. For everybody who wants to know what *pictorial turn* means from the point of view of the person who coined this phrase, I can only recommend it warmest.

Finally someone who understands

It was a tragedy to finish this book and learn that there were no others by the author. This is one of the most insightful and thought-provoking books on feminine psychology that I have read - I needed to go back and reread it to assimilate the wonderful revelations she gives. The book is easy to read yet profound in the content and after being disappointed by so many other books on Jungian psychology (as they address the female), the author seems to illuminate the darker side of the feminine and also honor the beauty and purpose of women simultaneously. One of the best books I've ever read.

I loved the book, and I know very little about Jungian psychology. It is so insightful and clearly written that at times it causes goosebumps. I wish there were more books written by her available.

Accessible Jungian; respects analytical relationship

I recommend this to the lay person who has had some acquaintance with Jungian analysis or would like to. She has an amazing understanding of & respect for the analytic relationship and great insights into feminine psychology. Because it is written in the 70s there is an overuse of the masculine pronoun, which jars in a book on feminine psychology; but her other insights make up for it. This may be especially useful for women over 40.

Before you take a med student or recent graduate's advice and buy this book, ask them what kind of program they were in. If they went to a school that was predominantly lecture, then this book might be for you, assuming you did not get through high school and college by showing up at lectures, taking your own notes, and reviewing them every day. But keep in mind that in recent years, medical schools have been moving away from the traditional pre-clinical/clinical separation of coursework, and have been integrating more active learning like problem-based learning, case-based learning, and team-based learning for their main instructional strategies and reducing the number of hours devoted to the kind of lectures that this book's strategy is targeted toward.

And here's some bonus advice if you are still applying and interviewing to get into med school: PAY ATTENTION when they start describing how they teach medicine in that program that you are competing to get into. If they use words like "integrated" "innovative" "group learning" "discussion learning" or anything that should signal to you that you are not going to be sitting in a lecture hall 6-8 hours a day, think about what that may mean to you in terms of your learning style. You might find yourself in the situation of having to learn a new way of learning in addition to all the subject matter you already need to know.

good book

was recomended this book by a med student at stanford. good book with some good insight. slightly overpriced as it only covers one method. i would love to use this method but my school applies a more non traditional method of teaching. in short the method is taking notes for your days work then reviewing them over the weekend.

Book this book right before going into medical school. I used his approach the first semester and I did well. I just found it hard to keep as the work load got heavier.
