About the Author
BEN RASKIN is the Head of Horticulture at the Soil Association in the UK, and a father to two. He runs courses and training on organic growing and launched the Soil Association's flagship Organic Apprenticeship Scheme in 2007. Ben developed an interest in gardening while working on an organic vineyard in northern Italy and has worked in horticulture for eighteen years.

About the Author

David W. Conklin is James D. Fleck Professor in International Business and a Professor of the Global Environment of Business area group at Richard Ivey School of Business. In addition he is President, Conklin and Associates, Inc., a company which undertakes research and consulting activities for private corporations and government departments and agencies on public policy issues. He has also taught in the Economics and Political Science Departments at UWO, and has been an Adjunct Professor in Social Science. He earned a BA in political science and economics from the University of Toronto and a PhD in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Conklin's research work focuses on the interface between corporations and public policies. This includes work for governments in the design and enforcement of legislation and regulations, as well as consulting for corporations in influencing public policies and in complying with government legislation and regulations. He has been Director, UWO Office of the Institute for Research on Public Policy, and Director of the University of Western Ontario Centre for American Studies. Over the past fifteen years, he has published over 50 articles and over 30 books.

Exercise therapist Swayzee makes a case for her program of strengthening the innermost abdominal muscles to stabilize the trunk, thereby relieving stress on and pain in the back. These are performed in a slow, small, controlled manner, with conscious deep breathing, which helps release muscle tension and enhance body awareness. Line drawings accompany lengthy, detailed instructions; special tips and precautions for each activity address those with recent back injury or surgery, the significantly overweight, seniors, and pregnant women. Parts 2, 3, and 4 present range-of-motion exercises to loosen and warm up the body, back-strengthening exercises to correct memory patterns, and a protocol of progressive stretches. About the Author

Nancy Swayzee is a Medical Exercise Specialist and a Health and Fitness Instructor certified by the American College of Sports Medicine. As a specialist in functions anatomy, she focuses on restoring balance to the musculo-skeletal system. She has been trained in the Paul St. John method of neuro-muscular therapy.

Within her practice she specializes in treating patients with cervical an low back pain, TMJ syndrome, postural imbalances and other musculo-skeletal conditions. In addition, she develops fitness programs for a variety of special populations as well as patients referred to her rehabilitation exercise. Her abdominal and back strengthening program has gained recognition among master skiers, equestrians, runners and other athletes.

As a member of the Tahoe Forest Hospital Health Promotions team, she directs both the Senior exercise and the Aqua Aerobics program. She conducts abdominal and back exercise clinics at the hospital, and has been a regular presenter of the highly respected Women's Wellness Weekend held annually in Squaw Valley.

She lives in Cedar Ridge, California, close to her children and grandchildren.

Have back pain? Don't ever want back pain? READ THIS BOOK!

Ms. Swayzee wrote her book for the lay person, yet you will find that it is not at all simplistic. IF YOU WANT RELIEF FROM LOW BACK PAIN OR IF YOU HAVE A HEALTHY BACK AND YOU WANT TO KEEP IT THAT WAY you must learn how to function, day to day, utilizing a stable trunk. This means, that YOUR UPPER BODY AND LOWER BODY NEED TO LEARN TO STAY TOGETHER AS A SINGLE, STABILIZED, UNIT as you lift, work, carry, etc. This book tells you how to use your inner abdominal muscles to achieve a stable trunk. In my opinion, the critical discovery set forth in this book is the use of forced-expiration breathing to achieve a body stabilizing abdominal contraction. This technique allows instant access to a stable trunk and can therefore be used moment to moment, throughout the day. I use her method constantly all day long. This is the only effective way I know to protect the back during the damaging rigors of everyday life. It allows a person to quickly target the proper abdominal muscles and then to maintain a more powerful, more sustained abdominal contraction when needed. During quieter activities when I am not lifting, pulling, pushing, carrying etc. I maintain a constant 10% to 15% contraction as a matter of routine posture. I look better and I feel better. IN FACT AFTER TWO YEARS OF SERIOUS DAILY LOW BACK PAIN, I FEEL GREAT!! If practiced for a few weeks, this health-preserving technique soon develops into a reflex that becomes automatic. THIS BOOK CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE!

Love this book!

Larger than normal print and using only first position makes this an excellent duet book for the beginning cello player.
Few materials like this on the market for the elementary student. The violin book works with the cello book, too.

Comes in Violin version for those who want to actually DO the duet thing!

I got this for my mom (who has a cello) and the violin version for me. We both JUST started playing as adult-learners, though she is a little ahead of me by a few months, and she is starting to learn some of the tunes. I got to hear the sound of the duet version when we went to a lesson and the teacher played the violin accompaniment. Our teacher really liked the books and thanked me for showing her something she hadn't seen before. Hopefully in the next couple months my mother and I can play "Ode to Joy" together and I can update my review to let you all know how that goes. :-)

Without having played myself I can say that my mom still thinks this is challenging even though it says "Easy", but it is something she (and hopefully soon I!) can work with. It is nice that the notes are so easy to read. This is great for beginners, people with poor vision, kids, seniors... and I like it because I am just learning how to read music and this makes each note so clearly visible.

Hopefully this review helps and hope you enjoy the book if you decide to try it out. :-)

Great music books for the beginner in their first few years of study and practice

Excellent beginner books for the violin or viola player in their first or second year. Larry Newman has an entire series of music books for violin, viola and cello that are all excellent for players in their first few years. I would not consider these lesson books, but books to supplement beginner players to learn more popular songs. For my young boys, I have the Don't Fret colored finger guide on their 1/4 and 1/2 violins. Then to help them find the correct notes, I will sometimes use a blue, yellow, pink and green or orange highlighter to color the notes on sheet music. I know it's a learning crutch, but it makes finding and playing the correct note faster and easier....the more positive feedback they get in playing a correct note, the longer they stay with learning music and different musical instruments (I hope). I also like the books because the songs are also easy enough for the beginner player to start memorizing songs too. Between the cello, violin and viola, I think we own all of them.

If you have read Moxie North's first books in the PNW Bears series, you may have wondered where did it all begin. In Ms. North's Be My Bear we learn about Moma and Poppa Rochon's first meeting and how they fell in love. This is Connie and Edward Rochon's story of how they found their true mate and established a bear family dynasty.

Connie White is a city bear and the beloved daughter of a wealthy family. She likes her lifestyle and has plans for college. None of her plans include a backwoods bear as a true mate. Edward Rochon has always wanted to find his mate and cannot wait to find her. He has to work hard and doesn't have a lot, but he is willing to do whatever he has to do to make his mate happy. Neither realize that their lives are about to change forever.

Read this informative prequel that takes place in the fifty's and lays the foundation for the Rochon boys, Cage, Wyatt and Conner. Ms. North has a way with words that will make you laugh, cry and just feel good! This is an exciting addition to my library, a must read.

Not the best

Easy story . Definitely one dimensional . I didn't really care about Connie . She was definitely way too young to get mated . She was still in high school. But she was 18 years . I skipped the sexy parts because they were boring. And I have a hard time reading about sex when they just met each other the same day. That makes it a very uncomfortable reading because you have no investment in the story or the relationship at all.

I have had the pleasure of reading the Pacific Northwest Bears series, well written and a complete delight! The love affair between Edward Rochon and Connie White is explored in this book. The love, their instant connection. The children,the business and the real reason for the feud! All action pack, this book is a gem, you won't want to miss! Thanks Moxie for showing us how true love is....
