About the Author
Gerhard Tersteegen was born in Moers, Germany in 1697. As a young man he gave up his life as a successful merchant and moved into an isolated cottage in order to search for God. In 1727 a revival took place and what started as a journey of solitude took a new direction as people began coming to him for spiritual guidance. Before long he was giving personal counsel from morning to night. The numbers seeking his guidance grew to the point that he was forced to move into a house to better accommodate them. In 1731 he published his first collection of hymns, The Spiritual Flower Garden. These hymns were so popular that they were sung at weddings, social gatherings, and even spoken as greetings. Thousands came to Tersteegen for spiritual counsel, many traveling great distances and sometimes waiting for hours in order to hear his words for a few minutes. He taught that God's nature is in every man and it has only become obscured by focus on outward things. All who seek the "kingdom of Heaven" from within will find great joy his words.

A collection of some one hundred letters and seventeen hymns

Gerhard Tersteegen wrote in the early 1700s and many will find his hymn 'Tho Hidden Love of God' in modern hymnals - such an audience will find further embellishment and insights in his QUIET WAY, a collection of some one hundred of his letters and seventeen of his hymns. His emphasis on charity and religious devotions influenced many a Protestant believer and holds much for modern readers as well: perfect for any Christian library.

Absolutely wonderful and uplifting

I love this collection. The letters contained in this book are so poignant and powerful; I have been moved many times in my spirit as I read the deep truths contained therein. Gerhard's poetry is equally beautiful and the reason I bought the book to begin with. I saw this poem and was so drawn to it, I wanted to know more about the author. 'There is a balm for every pain, a medicine for all sorrow; the eye turned backward to the Cross, and forward to the morrow. The morrow of the glory and the psalm, When He shall come: The morrow of the harping and the palm, The welcome home. Meantime in His beloved hands our ways, And on His Heart the wandering heart at rest; And comfort for the weary one who lays, his head upon His breast.' Those words painted such a beautiful picture in my mind and even now as I read the last part 'and comfort for the weary one who lays his head upon His breast' I am brought to tears. Such powerful imagery! There was one chapter that seemed to be written directly to me '4. Comfort in Sorrow'. I have been very blessed by this collection and am thankful the Spirit drew me to it. I hope you are blessed by it as well.

Very good book ! You will not find many men of God like this wonderful German Saint in today's church world ! He is scripturally sound and very intimate with God a man who lived in the presence of God who was a very Christlike and Christ absorbed man who was deeply in love with God! His instructions and letters will lead you into the profound peace of God ! And will stir your soul to live separated from this world and live in the depths of the holiness of God !
